Saying Goodbye to Chuck inspires and encourages victims of loss to be in the moment with their grief. So distressed by books that pushed me into wholeness and resolve by the end of the manuscript I determined to come up with a more personal approach. This interactive resource is excellent for anyone dealing with the profound issues of death and loss through the restorative power of expressing true feelings no matter how unsettling. Saying Goodbye to Chuck dispels the element of shame attached to showing and feeling one's most difficult emotions. Optimum recovery can and will ultimately be realized by giving space to the depth of despondency through honest expression. If we move too quickly or try to leap ahead, we end up right back where we don’t want to be. If that takes one year, two, five, then we shouldn’t have to explain or make excuses. Saying Goodbye to Chuck is an excellent method of incorporating a daily journal helping readers enunciate their own very personal grief process. I can’t emphasize enough how helpful it is to document one's experience. A journal becomes your secret sanctuary, your most trusted confidante, and the friend to which you reveal your deepest truth. This book suggests accessible ways to write, to journal, and then to use that as a guide to the future. Everyone experiences bereavement but everyone’s situation is unique. Together our experiences weave a tapestry displaying this universal truth at the heart of the human family, we are all one.

Everyone experiences the loss of a loved one, but few are struck with one as sudden and dramatic as that of Lynne Zotalis. In Saying Goodbye to Chuck, she shares her journey through her labyrinth of grief over the years following the death of her husband. Not a book to be read quickly from cover to cover. Rather, one to be opened for those moments when we need the support of a friend. Lynne courageously allows the endless flow of the emotions of grief to carry her where they will and to where she needed to go. In opening her soul to reveal her vulnerabilities, she reassures us that in our own journey we not be alone; that "I am with you."

Saying Goodbye to Chuck Lynne Zotalis 9781479286249 Books Reviews

"Saying Goodbye to Chuck" is one woman's poignant chronicle of her struggle to survive the sudden death of her beloved husband of thirty-one years. The palpable narrative surrounding the death event and subsequent darkest moments, weeks, months and years of anguish, questioning and personal revelations lead the reader along the path to the triumph of personal recovery. Written with great reverence for life and gratitude for love. Highly recommended for anyone processing loss.

--Terri Mozzone
Through sharing her own journey in the year after losing her beloved husband, Zotalis provides a look at the inner world of grief and offers her readers questions to explore their own. She makes no judgements and gives no advice other than what her own experience reveals, thereby honoring the grieving others face.
my heart ached for Lynne as I read her story of grief and loss, but at no point did I feel pity for her -- what she had, what she and Chuck had together, is/was enviable. A true partnership of souls -- and for this, although cut off too soon, I must confess to some envy. For not everyone gets to experience this in their lifetime. So, through the tears, I still say she's one of the lucky ones. Worth the read!

This book is poignant and sensitive to the journey one travels in the loss of a loved one. I lost both a husband and fiancee in 5 1/2 years, and the author's journal and experiences helped me in dealing with my own myriad of emotions, pain, and the steps to heal. The author's sharing of her loss and the pain, grief, anger, and strength processes touched me deeply, as only another widow can convey. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who has suffered a loss, especially that of a husband. Well written.....thank you to the author for the strengths I have found from reading your book.
Having a loved one die is one of the most painful and grueling experiences in life. The author invites you to walk with her as she journeys through her very dark times on her way to deciding that life is worth living. Its personal and honest -painful at times. It shows the pain and gut wrenching emotions associated with the extreme trauma of a losing a soulmate and the strength and support that is needed to journey through grief. Recommended for anyone unfortunately has traveled down this road of loss.
I became aware of this book many years ago by mere chance. But as the years passed I recommended and even bought it for friends who had lost exceptional partners. But the more i thought about it the more it became apparent that the time to buy such a book is before the loss of the one you love. Because the book is an outline as to how to live your lives together so that when the inevitable happens the survivor will have less remorse than the person who had many regrets in the relationship and things unsaid. Unsaid things which you regret not saying is the biggest part of the loss of someone you lost. And I think that this book is more valuable if given to a newly married couple or at an anniversary. Perhaps over the top, but not really.
