Dr. Cameran Young knew her assignment wouldn't be easy. As lead biologist on the Environment Impact Assessment team, her findings would determine the future of a large mining project in the northern Canadian bush. She expected rough conditions and hostile miners... but she didn't expect to find a dead body her first day on the job.

Former SAS Sergeant Daniel Fox forged a career as a helicopter pilot, working as far from the rest of the human race as possible. The thrill of flying makes his civilian life bearable, and he lives by his mantra don't get involved. But when he's charged with transporting the biologist to her research vessel, he can't help but get involved in the murder investigation... and with Cameran, who awakens emotions he's desperate to suppress.

In the harsh and rugged wilderness, Daniel and Cameran must battle their intense and growing attraction while keeping ahead of a killer who will stop at nothing to silence her.

Edge of Survival (Audible Audio Edition) Toni Anderson Lauren Fortgang Carina Press Books

This was a great one to listen to the author doesn’t give much away as she tells a story of who killed and why. You will have to pay close attention and you still might miss the hints of who the killer really is. Toni had me guessing almost until the end, I would make up my mind and then change it again time after time. I would have to say it isn’t my favorite book by her but it is a 5 star listen.

Toni does touch on some every day issues which made this story very believable as she spins a tale of who did it and why. The book starts off a little slow for me but before long Toni pulls me right in and hooks me. It was an audio I didn’t want to put down I just had to know why they killed. The unknown of what he was hunting about drove me crazy.

Lauren Fortgang did a wonderful job of narrating as she put the voice to each character I would have to say my favorite was Daniel Fox with his cool sexy voice as he keep his head cool which drives more than one women crazy he is a hot little number who could make you want him from one look. I enjoy how he played Cameran trying to make you stay away from him. The lake scene was outstanding as the narrator talked I could picture the scene in my mind which had me chuckling.

Toni does give a great plot which isn’t one you will see right away, she keeps you guessing as to whom and why in more ways than one. As they close in on the killer it all comes very clear which adds to the mystery. Toni gives you wonderful supporting characters I have to say I didn’t care to much for Vicki right off but she did grow on me. It was nice to see her grow and become a wonderful lady.

Cameran and Daniel don’t hit it off but you can feel the pull of these two and know things are going to get hot and heavy. Both are trying to outrun their past but in different ways, both have so much to give but neither is willing to put their heart on the line. There are some wonderful passionate scenes with some hot nights as these two dance around each other.

I totally enjoyed it as Toni gives us another site to her writing. It is a little confusing at times the author isn’t giving much away in this read but the author does come through. It is more of a mystery than a suspense I think which is well worth the listen. There hasn’t been one of Toni’s books I haven’t enjoyed she is a wonderful author who knows how to draw you in as she gives compelling reads. If you haven’t read any of her work I would start with the Cold Justice series, the audios are outstanding as she starts the story off with a bang and keeps you on the edge of your seats. All her audios are outstanding with wonderful narrators.

Edge of Survival (Audible Audio Edition) Toni Anderson Lauren Fortgang Carina Press Books Reviews

If you haven't read anything by Toni Anderson, this would be a good place to start. It is rare to find someone who can successfully mix these two genres.

Ms. Anderson has been on my automatic buy list for a few months because she writes books that are well-written without the "dumbing down" that is so frequent in romance novels. Her love of science is apparent.

The EDGE OF SURVIVAL includes a great plot in a unique setting. I thought Daniel was an incredibly interesting, well developed hero. He comes with a realistic set of flaws and there is plausibility in his redemption. Okay, he is also HOT and caring.

It was interesting to have the heroine, Cameran, be a scientist living with diabetes. It worked well in the context of the story.

There are a great set of interesting secondary characters as well who are useful to the plot development.

I see several comments by readers who are disgusted that Daniel slept with a friend of Cameran's on the day the three of them first met. If this is something you can't get over, then maybe this book is not for you. Both Jackie and Daniel were using sex and alcohol to deal with other issues. When Jackie showed up at Daniel's room he didn't turn her away. He realizes that this is a low point in his life and sets out to make adjustments. Daniel and Cameran had no relationship at that point.

I highly recommend this book.
Cameran Young is a biologist who along with her team has come to the northern Canadian bush to do a Environment Impact Assessment. When they arrive in town and are waiting for the helicopter pilot that is going to take them to the ship where they will be stationed for the next 3 month they realize the miners aren't happy they are there fearing they are going to ruin their jobs. Once the pilot shows up Cam decides to head to the bathroom for a quick break and gets the shock of her life. A dead body of a young woman.

Daniel Fox used to work for the United Kingdom Special Forces known as SAS (Special Air Service). After having to leave in unfavorable circumstances due to something tragic that happened on his last mission he decides to come to Canada to be a helicopter pilot. His way of getting through life was drinking and having meaningless sex to keep his mind off of the disaster his life had become. After going to check on Cam and finding what she found in the bathroom he realizes his ingrained instincts to protect are still there and he isn't happy about it.

Cam and Daniel aren't your typical Hero and Heroine. We as the reader's know that Daniel is suffering from PTSD even though he hasn't figured it out himself. Daniel does something early in the book that would probably turn most women off but for me I understood he was in emotional pain and was just looking to numb it anyway he could. Cam has diabetes type 1. She has had it since she was 14 and has decided that she isn't going to let it rule her life and keeps tight control over it. When Daniel first see's her injecting herself with insulin he thinks she is a junkie but once she explains he is even more frustrated with himself because now he really feels he has to protect this woman who comes out to the bush with a disease he doesn't really understand and he doesn't understand his attraction to Cam either and he tries to fight it so hard at first.

We get quite a few POV's in this book. One of the characters I liked the best was a Staff Sergeant with the Canadian Mounties. Poor guy gets called to the scene of the murder after he had taken a Viagra on the advice of his marriage counselor and his wife to try and save his marriage. They convinced him he was suffering from ED. So his first meeting with a young female officer that has been assigned to him is quite comical.

I loved the scene descriptions of where this book took place. There wasn't only the threat from multiple bad guys but also from nature and the animals.

I also have to give the author credit for a very realistic description of a person living with diabetes. My son has type 1 and I can tell you everything Cam goes through is very realistic. I look forward to reading more from this author.
