Overall, I enjoyed this story. Indie Luce starts out as an interesting character, one that can see Spirit, loved ones that help her dying patients cross over. She's also broke and burnt out. That all changes when she agrees to meet with a powerful man and signs on as his hospice nurse. With money and more time on her hands, Indie's life is looking up. Except that she's falling in love with a man no one else can see, she's having nightmares that are truly creepy (that I loved) and her dead patients and senile aunt is sending her cryptic warnings to be careful.That's where I get frustrated. Even after her dreams get worse, she receives messages to be careful and the danger amps up, Indie brushes it off as a pending psychotic break, pops a pill and carries on.
As the book went on, I found myself more and more frustrated by Indie as well as the plot. I knew almost immediately who the Big Bad was, and the love triangle was predictable. Indie fell in love with both men, but chose the one I didn't want her with, despite moral and ethical issues that she as a nurse should have known better to avoid. Now the biblical subplots were great, and were what really kept me going. Overall, I just felt like the author wrote this book to set up for something bigger in the next one. The big problem was resolved in the end, but there was enough foreshadowing and hints dropped that weren't resolved, that I think a bigger bad is going to emerge in book two.
But for the fairly predictable plot and love interests, I had to give this book three stars. Good, but not completely satisfying.
At some point there is a fine line between good & evil and light & darkness. How do you know where that line is and when you may cross it? This thought provoking book has you examining everyday decisions you may be making that could lead you toward temptations without you even realizing it. It can give you a feeling of unease with your reality. I finished reading the book a couple of weeks ago and at least once every day something has come up that has made me think about the contents of this book. It is that freaking good. I love a book that is enjoyable reading but also can spike my emotions and stir up my thoughts.
Ok now what?.........I need more! Great book and again I'm hooked! I can't wait to see what's next!!! Kris has done it again!
Kris always writes these amazing women for her heroines. This story was full of both romance and mystery, and I am just dying to know what's going to happen with Indie in the future.
Loved it! Not at all what I was expecting. I can't wait for the next in the series. I need more explaining done. The necklace? Frank? Good or bad??? so many questions!
I love Calvert's Sex, Lies series and Beauty, so I assumed I would enjoy this as well. I assumed correctly. Brilliant. I'm looking forward to more Indie.
Wow!!!! This book had me wondering what was really happening from beginning until the end. I loved it! I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a book that makes you think. I believe Darynda Jones fans will enjoy this book. Amazing, simply, amazing.
